This, I think is a famous passage known globally and internationally. I have seen this brought up in many different places, occasions other than just church. Yes. The Parable of the Good Samaritan. The main point Jesus was trying to get across, I BELIEVE, is helping on another and loving each other. Let's.. "DIVE" in, shall we?
25On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"26"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"27He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"28"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."29But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"30In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35The next day he took out two silver coinse]"> and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'36"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"37The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."
luke10:25-37
So, throughout this passage, an expert tries to test Jesus (which should not be done) about the scriptures. Jesus, got to test him back and it led to the parable of the Good Samaritan. Firstly, as in the conversation between the expert and Jesus, the way to inherit eternal life is...
Verse 27: He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"
So the expert continued to test Jesus by saying WHO is my neighbour? It isnt JUST the ones living next to you. As the word says, Jesus answers with a parable. The Parable of the Good Samaritan. Briefly, the parable is about a robbed man and how his "closer" friends/people such as the levite and the priest didn't help him yet, the Samaritan, the so called "enemy" helped him up. He clothed him, gave him food and shelter and took care of him (verse 34).
After, the expert understood that the neighbour was the one who had mercy. Therefore, it can project that we must love out enemies AS WELL AS our friends and family. The Samaritan and the robbed man was different people, but they broke the barrier of their differences and he helped him out.
Lastly, the powerful and strong words Jesus spoke to him at the end (verse 37),
The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."
When we read this passage, LITERALLY, Jesus was talking to him, but the truth is that God wants US to Go and do likewise. We must care for one another whether they are our rivals or our family and friends. John 13:34 says...
34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
john13:34
Go and Do Likewise.
Go and Do Likewise.
SUB it,
God Bless You ♥
