Jesus Calms The Storm (Luke 8:22-25)

Once again, like the previous post, I believe that this is a well-known post to myself and probably to many others. To sum it up, this passage is when the disciples of Jesus lose faith when a storm is brewed and Jesus is asleep.

22One day Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's go over to the other side of the lake." So they got into a boat and set out. 23As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25"Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."
luke8:22-25

Faith is the big thing projected throughout this passage. When Jesus had fallen asleep and the storm came upon the ship, all the disciples lost their faith in Christ. They all were afraid and felt insecure. Unlike the disciples, Jesus had tons of faith and it shows throughout the passage.

In verse 24: The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.

As Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and raging waters, it shows a great amount of faith. Enough faith to calm the whole storm. After all, he was the messiah so he had the power through the Lord to do so.

The disciples did have enough faith to believe in God and know that the Lord is there to protect them. They need to trust in God and strengthen their faith. After reading this passage and breaking it down, I think there are a few things you can "consume" from this section.

Firstly, we must learn to be faithful and have faith in our Lord. We must trust in him and know that he will always be with us and that he will protect us.

8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
deuteronomy31:8

20He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
matthew17:20

And secondly, like in Deuteronomy 31:8 (above), we must remember and keep in mind that the Lord out God will ALWAYS be with us. We must not be afraid like the disciples in the boat, and know that God is with us and that we can put our faith in him.

So remember to have faith in Christ, put your trust in him, and remember that he is with you always.

4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
psalms23:4
